Barrier-free to the new U5

Soon the time will come: the new U5 underground line and the underground stations Unter den Linden and Rotes Rathaus will go into operation. So that everyone can enjoy the benefits of the new line equally, our three new stations are of course barrier-free.

For people with impaired mobility, but also passengers with a lot of luggage or prams, even the access to the station can become a challenge. To make it easy, all our stations are equipped with lifts. Once on the platform, seating is available.

For people with impaired vision, an easily recognisable system of guidelines is installed in the floor throughout the station area. Always in contrast: white if the floor is black; black if the floor is white. The handrails on the stairs also show the destination of the lines in Braille and the exact name of where you are.

When the new U5 goes into service on 4th of December, it will be the first completely barrier-free underground line in Berlin.
