Driving of the side galleries at Museum Island station is progressing successfully! In the more northern track - track 1 - the tunnel workers have now reached 82 metres (calotte). In track 2, where work started a little later, the calotte is already at 58 meters. In order to achieve this, the main east pit is in full operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week: numerous machines are needed. Their deployment is precisely timed, each work step is coordinated so that they do not get in the way in the narrowly confined space, so that no time is lost: The milling machine is used to dig up the tunnel, remove the steel reinforcements weighing tons, and break off the tubbing segments towards the central gallery. The excavator carries the excavated material, the frozen sand and the segment parts to the Andienöffnung. And the concrete vehicle is used to apply the shotcrete. The work goes hand in hand - the breakthrough is expected in March 2019!
