Free passage on the Spreekanal
The progress made in the construction of the Museumsinsel underground station is now also visible on the surface. The cofferdam in the Spreekanal directly next to the Schlossbrücke is being rebuilt. The cofferdam was already built in 2012. For this purpose, two sheet piles were placed in the canal and filled with material. The cofferdam was needed because the tunnel boring machine "Bärlinde" could only pass through walls if it hit them vertically. This would not have been possible with the existing bank wall. In view of the narrowness of the excavation pits - on MUI East just 700m² - the additional square metres were important "land reclamation" for the shell construction. However, this is now no longer needed in the extension. Therefore the dismantling works have been running since November and soon the boats in the Spreekanal will not have to make a bend anymore.
